ETHICAL REQUIREMENTS
Our competition aims to give photographers the opportunity receive recognition for their work in this challenging genre and put their creativity to good use in raising awareness on bird protection. We therefore only accepts photos that are based on the principle of ethical bird photography.
Photographs submitted tmust portray the natural world in a creative, honest, and ethical manner. In all categories, it is a requirement that images depict wild birds in their natural or urban habitat.
Works must not deceive the viewer or attempt to disguise and/or misrepresent the reality of nature. Information provided in the descriptions of the photographs must be comprehensive, truthful, and accurate.
Entrants must not distress, disturb or damage the wildlife for the purposes of photography. Photos can only depict wild birds photographed in natural or urban habitat.
Photographs must not depict captive or domesticated birds, birds on nests with young or eggs or images captured using bird call playback to attract birds, nocturnal birds taken with a flash at night, restrained or taxidermy birds, and any other animals exploited for profit.
The use of live bait or any other method that endangers animals or negatively affects their behavior, either directly or indirectly through repeated exposure, is not allowed. Any other means of attraction, including birdseed or scents, must be declared in the photo caption for review by the judges and us. The jury will give preference to photographs without bait.
Despite of recognizing the legitimacy of drone photography, we do not accept drone images either, because the natural movement of birds can be impeded by drone photography.
You must avoid any actions that cause harm or distress to animals or damage their habitat in an attempt to capture a photograph.
We must set an example with our attitudes. Photographers should obtain the necessary permits, especially when dealing with protected species, and be familiar with the regulations of natural areas, particularly in protected areas where they conduct their activities.
Remember that our goal is to celebrate birds and the importance of preserving it. Be the example that inspires others.
